The Amahoro conference is happening next week - and I can't wait! To get some fantastic minds into the same space to dialogue around post-colonial church is a wonderful, creative opportunity. It's not just the upfront speakers either, but the chance to work out the theory and theology with on-the-ground pastors for whom this must make a difference, or it's all talk. Plus there are some people who have a big influence on the wider scene in South Africa.
The list of speakers (or, at least, the people who at some stage will have the mic) is (in order of appearance): Rene August, Marius Brand, Trevor Ntlola, Claude Nikondeha, Edward Simiyu, Kenzo Mabiala, Moss Nthla, Adriaan Vlok, Brian McLaren, Paul Verryn, Samuel Kareithi, Spiwo Xapile, John & Di Hewitson.
The best audio introduction to the conversation which Amahoro fits within is Brian McLaren's talk "Postmodern and Postcolonial."
The best talk on African postcolonial theology is Kenzo Mabiala's "African postcolonial theology: The imperative to differ". Also highly recommended is an examination of the errant theology of the colonisers - Claude Nikondeha talking on "The Transformation Gospel vs the Evacuation Gospel".
If you'd like to visit for the day (the day visitor cost is R200), you can still email marius [at] amahoro-africa [dot] org - but only until Friday (June 5th).

Amahoro
Thanks for this.
I can't afford to come to the whole thing, but might try to make it for a day.
Amahoro gathering
Thanks for making the programme available -- that information is VERY difficult to come by -- I've been asking about it for months.
Can you tell WHERE it is to be held and how to get there?
The programme makes me want to go to as much as I can afford to attend, but is little use if the location is unknown -- it seems to be a well-guarded secret!
The location
Lol! Sorry about that, Steve - the location is the YFC Cyara campsite in Magaliesberg. You will have to park 5 km's from the campsite and leopard crawl past trained guards who, if they catch you, will grill you for your orthodoxy and commitment to postcolonial mission. If, indeed, you pass their questions, you'll be allowed in.
Secret venue
Oh, I thought one had to engage in hand to hand combat with the guards and, having defeated them, get the key that opens one of the three door, one of which contains the map to the venue, and another a very angry and hungry dragon that has been confined for a million years, and the third some other Indiana Jones type booby trap.
Anyway, hope to see you there, at least on Tuesday.
Oh, it's much worse than
Oh, it's much worse than that, Steve! It looks a little like this:
