Great post Roger! I've become progressively frustrated with the Acts 2 rhetoric ... the Acts 2 church didn't freeze in time ... they became the Acts 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 ... The great thing about the New Testament is that we discover that within a few decades of the start of the church, there were many different forms of church, and many different problems, too.

We cannot read Acts in isolation. We certainly cannot read Acts 2:42 in isolation!

not only do we see the church described/lived out in many ways both in Acts and and letters, but a cricital interpretive questions for acts is: what is presriptive/timeless for the Church and what is descriptive/situational? there are all sorts of things happening in Acts that I [appropriately] don't hear people saying we should replicate.
