Just mouthing the words...

Posted by: seantucker

I was tired today of having the kids write out dictionary words for me overtime they did something they knew they shouldn't be doing and so I decided they needed something different that would take them longer and ultimately do them some more good. I got them each to write out a story of some kind every time they broke the rules. Suhail came back to me with a story about the day he had had and I struck by his honesty. Today was the schools swimming gala and he recalled how he was supposed to be shouting with the rest cheering the school on but he had no inclination to do so and so he simply mouthed along with the rest in order to avoid the comments of others who would criticize him for a lack of commitment or loyalty... reminds me of other situations in which we so often shoot down those who don't say and do the right tings to back up our little 'social clubs', especially the religious ones. Don't most people just end up spending their lives mouthing the words without any conviction of the heart to simply avoid the accusations and social ostracism they will inevitably receive from others?

Started reading 'A New Kind of Christian' today and was struck the fact that so much more can be communicated through an everyday dialogue than cannot be communicated through the same amount of cold hard prose! Maybe this should be my outlet?
