Abbot Christopher Jamison heads up Worth Abbey, who opened their doors a few years ago to five modern lay men with little or no experience of Christian monastic life, who shared in the life of the monks for 40 days and nights. He has written "Finding Santuary," offering practical wisdom from the monastic tradition on how to build sanctuary into your life. Being busy is not inevitable! He says that meditation is one of the most important steps toward finding sanctuary, and gives a practical guide for meditating:
You may it helpful to use one of the following, traditional prayers:
- Find a quiet place free from distraction
- Sit with your limbs uncrossed and with a straight back, hands in your lap
- Simply breathe at regular speed but breathe deeply and relax
- Close your eyes and think of a beautiful scene from the natural world
- Take a simple phrase and repeat it continuously in time with your breathing

- Come and illumine my darkness
- Be still and know that I am God
- God be in my head and in my understanding
- Come Holy Spirit and inflame my heart
- Come Lord Jesus
